Refugees are people just like you and me. Though they are faced with a grim choice - stay and
die, or flee and risk imprisonment, sexual harassment, torture and forced recruitment by armed
groups. Many of us have no idea what it's like to be forcibly displaced. We have a home, a safe
environment and most of all, our family is safe.

But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every 2 seconds, a person is forcibly
displaced. We are talking about 79.5 million people! It doesn’t have to be that way, it’s time to
act.

I started this fundraising campaign to help the UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, pursue its
mission to save these lives around the world and I'm looking for anyone who can help me.

In addition, this is a special fundraising campaign in memory of a dear ex-colleague and friend who passed away due to covid-19 in May 2021. Many of us who knew and have worked with Jyoti are still grieving and missing her cheerful, generous personality. Jyoti was a special friend to me in this current chapter of which without her support over the last 15 months, I would not be where I am. I miss the evening calls at my time with her as she prepared dinner (and me in the Willows spa to decompress from the exhaustion at work). I miss the many conversations we had over her last experiences working with the Singapore Tourism Board and fond memories to Singapore institutions etc. We spoke of visiting one another when the pandemic is over. We joined the company at the same time in Jan 2019 and never had a chance to meet in person.

Lastly, Jyoti was one of the few who knew I aspired to work for an aid organisation such as UNHCR and one of her last messages to me was Áll the best and look forward to the good news' a week before she passed on. (UNHCR shortlisted me for a Singapore based role 2 months ago and while I am not selected, it has been a great journey interviewing with a UN agency).

Now that she is gone, I hope you can join me in making this campaign a success by donating $10 or $50 or as you wish.

Your donation will allow UNHCR to buy and deliver sleeping mates, shelter kits, first-aid kits and a lot of other useful stuff like these.

Thank you for your support.

Warm wishes,

Teri Ng

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) was established on 14 December 1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. The agency exists to lead and coordinate international action to protect refugees and resolve refugee issues. It strives to ensure that everyone has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge in another state, with the option to voluntarily return home when conditions are conducive for return, integrate locally or resettle to a third country. UNHCR has twice won the Nobel Peace Prize, in 1954 for its ground- breaking work in helping the refugees of Europe, and in 1981 for its worldwide assistance to refugees.
